Vicky Gregor “Your Friend and Neighbor” Weekdays, 9 a.m.-Noon
My song for August is Plane Crash from Champagne in Seashells by Liam Finn and Eliza Jane. Great pop songwriting with a build-up toward an ecstasy filled ending.

Matthew Stevens “Overnight Music Mix” Mondays, Midnight-2 a.m.
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros – Home from Up from Below. I’m a sucker for rolling, twangy melodies with a side of swagger and boy/girl duets.

Eric Cole “In the Groove” Tuesdays, 8-10 p.m.
I pick What is This from the album What Have You Done, My Brother? on a new release by Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens. I like the whole album, but this song has been stuck in my head for days. Even though this is a brand new release, it successfully serves up a tasty 1960s Gospel Soul music feast.

Mandy “Overnight Music Mix” Wednesdays, Midnight-2 a.m.
The Dead Weather I Cut Like a Buffalo from Horehound. My reason behind this pick is not quite musical in nature…I saw it in a killer skate video. Now every time I hear this song I see Tony Hawk and Andy Macdonald doing sick doubles tricks and it brings a little smile to my face.

Dick Fairley “Classic Jazz Excursion” Thursdays, 8-10 p.m.
My favorite jazz song for August is the first track Undecided on (Uncle) Bill Tapia’s album Livin’ It Live. The album is remarkable for two reasons: Bill, who was born in Hawaii in 1908 continues to perform and record at age 101. He is also credited with being the first musician to play jazz on a Hawaiian ukulele. It is not the greatest jazz album of all times but, like the quote about the dog that sang operatic arias while standing on his hind legs “the remarkable thing is that he could do it at all.” — Gives us old guys hope for the future.

Nick Pelis, “Oscillation Propagation” Saturdays, 10 p.m.-Midnight
My track is Ian Simmonds‘ Diver from The Burgenland Dubs. Ian Simmonds’ Diver integrates warm orchestral radiance, uplifting guitar, a jazzy world beat, and smooth vocals, transporting you to a San Francisco coffee house on a sunny weekend morning, sipping espresso and taking in the cool & humid oceanic breeze.

Jennifer Newman “The Brick House” Mondays, 8-10 p.m.
For sure my favorite song this month is Roses off of Mos Def’s new album The Ecstatic. It features Georgia Anne Muldrow, and the harmonies the two of them create are classic R&B. Part love song, part celebration of pulling yourself up by the proverbial bootstraps. Very soulful- love it.

Al Warner “Classic Jazz Excursion” Thursdays, 8-10 p.m.
Idle Moments, Mike LeDonne from CD On Fire. Real cooker, original by Grant Green.

Eric Whitney “Grass Roots Revival” Wednesdays (occasionally), 8-10 p.m.
My pick is Down Low by the Dexateens from Singlewide. It’s just good, neo-white-trash twang.

Jeanette Hohman “Surround Sounds” Thursdays, 10 p.m. – Midnight (And fill-in host galore!)
My favorite song this month is Ambivalence Avenue, the title track from the new Bibio release. The album itself has a bit of a retro feel, but this song is quietly beautiful. It’s the perfect soundtrack for a rainy afternoon.

Delaney Utterback-GM “The Brick House” Mondays, 8-10 p.m.
My pick for August would have to be Antony & the Johnsons covering Beyonce’s Crazy in Love from the Aeon single. I saw him perform this live; it was jaw-dropping. I’m so happy to see a studio version has been released.
