Blessing of the Pets

Every year at this time, Grace-St. Stephens Episcopal Church holds its Blessing of the Pets in memory of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of pets.

This was the first time the parish has held the event since returning to the church building at 601 N. Tejon after the much publicized split within the congregation in 2007.

  1. As new members of Grace and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and animal lovers, we were BUMMED to miss the Blessing of the Pets service! Thanks so much for posting this!!!

Though not witnesses to “the split” first-hand, we watch as Grace seeks to build on the positive experiences (the love and support they received from First Christian and one another) while shedding (pardon the pun) the negativity.

  2. We brought our daughter’s pet hedgehog to be blessed one year. That was the same October a little boy brought his craw daddies to be blessed. All creatures are welcome I guess…

  3. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many huge grins (or such sounds) in a church! Great stuff.

  4. Loved this. Now how can we get wind of it beforehand next year?
