No matter what you believe this time of year, it’s nearly impossible not to find yourself awestruck by the stained glass windows in a high-Gothic church on a sunny Spring morning. We have such a church right here in Colorado Springs: Grace St.-Stephens Episcopal Church (you can learn more about the church itself and its history in HERE).
Note that the first two images are of a pair of stained glass windows that may be Tiffanys, though the church is still researching the matter.
The music is the fifth movement of Cantata No. 131 by J.S. Bach, Aus der Tiefe rufe ich, Herr, zu dir (Psalm 130) performed by the St. Stephen’s & Taylor Choir with Chamber Orchestra & Soloists on March 7, 2010 at the “Masterpieces for Lent” Taylor Memorial Concert at the church.

Thank you for this beautiful appreciation of our windows. They reflect generations of faithful parishioners’ love and generosity. We are blessed at Grace and Saint Stephen’s to “worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness,” and this slide show richly captures the beauty of our building. We attended that concert and indeed have fond memories of Grace Church and all our friends there. Churches may fade away but memories and friends do not. Thanks for sharing. Great photographs! Music’s not bad either

The organ that you hear on TBS was given to Grace church “for the benefit and enjoyment of the citizens of Colorado Springs” by philanthropist Alice Bemis Taylor. The trust fund that accompanied the organ has endowed the free, public Taylor Memorial Concert Series at Grace for over three quarters of a century. The final concert in this year’s series will be held May 23 at 3 pm.

Beautiful windows and music. Why not a series on the other downtown churches with stained glass windows? For instance, the Congregational Church, All Souls Unitarian Universalist, etc. And a piece on William Jackson Palmer (I think) who gave free lots to many of the churches.
